DIGGING/SEA
Digging Sea/Σκάβωντας τη θάλασσα is a music-theatre project created for the Kournos Music Festival in Lemnos, marking one hundred years since the archaeological excavations of Hephaistia. Through music, text and performance, the piece explores the island’s memory, its myths, landscapes and buried histories. Taking excavation as both a literal and poetic gesture, Digging Sea asks what we uncover when we dig into the past, and what remains hidden beneath the stories we inherit. Moving between archaeology, local memory and fiction, the work evokes figures such as Philoctetes while reflecting on exile, belonging, loss and the desire for freedom. Created in collaboration with composer Ioannis Panagiotou, the project brings together contemporary composition, traditional sounds and theatrical narration to imagine the island as a space where past and present continue to speak to one another.
